Rubia cordifolia, often known as common madder or Indian madder /Majith . The roots contain phytochemicals like anthraquinone, terpenes, glycosides etcis a source of a natural dye producing a variety of pigments in its roots and also in rhizomes.
It is Used as natural hair dye with no side effects .The vibrant red colour when mixed with henna produce best results alternatively it can also be used for dyeing linen fabrics etc.

Rubia denotes ‘red’ the roots of R. cordifolia have been used in Indian and Chinese traditional system of medicines to treat haematemesis, haematuria, inflammations, ulcers and skin diseases. It is an important ingredient in Chadanasava, an Ayurvedic wine preparation which contains 5–10 % of self generated alcohol, prescribed for urinogenetal disorders.
